The provisional outcome of my studies on the Certificate of Higher Education in Philosophy programme: Distinction!
Behind this result are three years of dedicated work: 17 courses, 34 essays, and three substantial final assignments — all awarded provisional marks in the Distinction band. Six weeks of in-person study at Oxford’s summer schools.
Philosophy, artificial intelligence, and data science.
In philosophy, my studies ranged from ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics to the philosophy of mind, religion, and politics. They explored human nature, truth, and post-truth. In artificial intelligence, they covered practical applications, machine learning, and data analysis.
All of this has meant books, lectures, discussions, and hours spent writing. Finding precise language, testing my own arguments, and being willing to reconsider what had seemed obvious only the day before.
I am now awaiting formal confirmation from the Board of Examiners in November. Once that arrives, this important chapter of my life will be successfully completed.
Ahead lies a new path towards a PhD — a dissertation on the philosophy of human genius in the age of artificial intelligence. At the heart of my research is what it means to be the author of one’s own thoughts, and how to choose and act independently in a world where AI plays an ever-growing role.
